From the Boosters President
Clarence D.I. Boosters Update……
Update from the President……

Since our last update, there have been a lot of exciting events happening with our Clarence
Destination Imagination program. For those of you who didn’t know…..

  • In January, the board met with administrators from the Clarence School District, Teresa
Lawrence and Rick Mancuso to discuss the concern that funding for Destination
Imagination would be cut from the school budget.  This would result in the school
ceasing to pay registration fees for regional, state and global competition.  The board
met and discussed the benefits, costs and statistics concerning the program and then
discussed those issues with the CCC administration. To make a long story short, the
Clarence Central Schools paid the remainder of our fees for this year and committed to
pay all registration fees next year. In Nov. 2008, the new board will meet with Rick and
Teresa and evaluate our status and make ongoing plans for financing the program.
    Whew! Glad that’s settled.

  • Also in January, we completed our Bonanza Lottery fundraiser. Our profits totaled
$6,550.00. Awesome work, Lorraine Okon and the fundraising committee.

  • In February, we held our appraiser training in preparation for Regional Competition and
approximately 60 people from the Western Region participated. A heart-felt thank you
goes out to all those who volunteered to appraise for our Regional Competition.  It is my
understanding that some people are continuing and will appraise at the State level.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • In addition, we held our first annual fish fry and made over $600.00. Great job Donna
Baumeister and all of the fundraising committee who helped with this fundraiser.

  • It is now April and the events just keep on coming!  It started with our Celebration of
Creativity.  In spite of some technical difficulties, the event was fun and helped prepare
kids for the competition the following week. Once again, Maria Janzow did a great job
and a fun time was had by all.

  • March events continued with our last Mazia’s pizza night. The total profit for Clarence DI
for the six pizza nights was $328.00. Thank you to everyone who ordered pizzas and
    supported our program.

  • We had our Regional competition and banquet the weekend of March 8th but in reverse
order. Due to the snow storm, the competition was on Sunday and the dinner was a
“good luck” banquet rather than a congratulatory one. Many thanks to all of our High
School volunteers, DI volunteers and Rob Schofield from Mazia’s who made the evening
a big success.  And speaking of the competition………

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 11 CLARENCE DESTINATION IMAGINATION TEAMS MOVING
ON TO STATE COMPETITON.  YOU WERE AWESOME!!!!!!!  The Clarence DI Boosters would
like to congratulate all of our teams who participated in the Regional Competition.  Many team
managers experienced a difficult year but hung in there and modeled perseverance and
commitment to their teams. Your dedication to your teams is paying off in ways that you won’t
experience the full impact of for a few years. You should be proud of the work you are doing with
our kids. It is making a difference.

As most of you know, board elections are coming up in June.  Four out of our six positions will
be up for grabs.  Keith Parwulski will assume the Presidency, Lori Sebian will be the President
ex-ficio (non-voting member). The Vice President, Secretary and two Treasury positions will
need to be filled. In addition, we will be forming a registration committee and need a publicity
person.  We need your help. Please consider one of these positions. Without you, the program
will have a major setback and we have all worked too hard to let that happen. The Vice
President position is a three year commitment, the Secretary is a one year position as is the
position of Treasurer. There is a second Treasury position that is two years with the first year
being a training year under the Treasurer.  If you have any questions or would like to volunteer to
help, please let one of the board members know.  Jon Brennan is heading up the election
committee and could also serve as another contact.

Upcoming Events

In April,  Lorraine Okon will be organizing our second annual Fishing Derby.  Volunteers can

State competition is on Sat. April 5th.

Our next car wash is scheduled to be held on April 26th, at the Clarence Grill on Main St.

Lori Sebian
