Clarence DI Teams make a great show at Global DI!What is DI? We had five teams take on solving challenges this year and we are proud to say that all five came up with a solution to their challenge. That is the most important thing as it shows how the team came together and overcame obstacles to develop a solution. Problem solving, creative thinking, team building, and project management are just a few of the necessities to developing a clear solution. Through this, the kids developed and sharpened skills that some adults have yet to master, including compromising, learning and capitalizing on each other's strengths, listening to others, and removing the IM in
Regional Competition: All five teams also decided to compete at the Western Regional Competition in Orchard Park on Saturday, March 13th, 2010 with almost 40 teams from all over Western New York. There was no shortage of excitement and fun as every team presented their solution to audiences and appraisers. Of our five teams, three placed first in their challenge and level and one placed second! Great job!
State Competition: Four teams went to New York State competition held in Endicott, NY on April 17th, 2010. This all day event had teams from Eastern, Central, and Western New York State competing against one another vying for the Top 2 spots in order to advance to Global competition and the rest obtaining some healthy bragging rights. New this year was having our friends from Pennsylvania join us in the fun and festivities. All our teams did a great job in representing Clarence and our school district with 3 of them placing in the Top 3. Two teams placed 2nd and will be representing New York State at the Global competition in May. Congratulations!
Global Competition: Two Clarence teams represented New York State at the Global competition in May, held in Knoxville, Tenessee. Over 12,000 attended the biggest Global DI with every State in the US and over 30 countries attending this fun, world-wide event. Clarence and "You're Gonna Flip" challenges. The Clarence Elementary Ledgeview team called The Great Greek-gyptians solved the "Breaking DI News" challenge and placed 27th in the world among 59 teams.
